Kerry topples Galway to win 2024 All-Ireland Ladies Senior Football Championship (2024)

Kerry bested Galway 3-14 to 0-11 to win the 2024 TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Senior Football Championship Final in Dublin's Croke Park on Sunday, August 4.

It is the first time the Kingdom is taking home the coveted Brendan Martin Cup since 1993.

The big win comes after Kerry fell to Dublin in the 2023 championship final and lost to Meath in the 2022 final.

Galway, meanwhile, hadn't been in the final since 2019 when they lost to Dublin.

According to RTÉ, attendance at Sunday's match in Croke Park was confirmed as 30,340.

“It’s a fantastic honour," Kerry captain Niamh Carmody said in a press conference after the green and gold's victory on Sunday.

"This group has been together for the last five years and after the lows of the last few years, it was just phenomenal to get up those steps.

"It’s going to be the greatest day of my life, I’d say forever!

"It’s just fantastic. I can’t put it into words what it means for us.”

Kerry teammate Danielle O'Leary added: “Just pure relief as well at the final whistle.

“There are always doubts in your head. It’s such a dream of yours, that if you’ve been dreaming since you were eight years old it is actually hard to believe that it has finally come true.

“There are good days and there are bad days, thoughts come into your head saying, ‘is this ever going to happen?’ or ‘is this ever going to come true?’

"I suppose at the end of the day it comes down to trusting in yourself and trusting each other. That there’s 15 players involved on the pitch at one time and then there’s 20 others on the bench that’s rooting for you."

“So I think . . . it was just pure resilience, time and patience and like, of course, you have doubts from time to time but you’ve just got to believe at the end that you’ll get there.”

Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh, who has played with the Kerry Ladies Senior team for 16 years, told Off The Ball on Sunday: "The dream has come true at long last.

"What a performance by the team. It was an ultimate team performance today, I'm so proud of everyone."

Ní Mhuircheartaigh paid tribute to Darragh Long and Declan Quill: "Thank god they came back. We owe them everything. We'll be forever grateful for what they've done for us. They've brought us on leaps and bounds as players, and as people as well.

"This wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for them, we love them."

Kerry's Kayleigh Cronin, who was named player of the match on Sunday, told Off The Ball: "I couldn't have dreamed it.

"When I was growing up, you didn't have girls' games inside of Croke Park, so it couldn't have been a dream for me.

"I've been to many All-Ireland Finals with the men over the years and just absolutely loved every second of it, so to get a chance to do the same here now in front of the supporters is absolutely unbelievable."
